I would also like to know the answer to this! Almost everything in this article describes me and it would make me feel a bit better about myself to have a reason why I have certain difficulties.

Hi, just wanted to say that I’m struggling with wanting to know if I am autistic (mild) because my daughter and father are…but…my story is almost exactly like yours… I can relate to most of what you said and for what it’s worth, you aren’t alone. I would like to self-identify but don’t want to go around telling people if it’s not technically true (too mild to be considered on the spectrum? i doubt it though). I’m 34. I hope to see diagnostic evals that aren’t gender biased soon.

I can be alone for hours and I am totally happy with it. I don’t understand social cues and why they exist, I really try, but I don’t understand them(a guy I liked once told me that he realized I didn’t understand how to interact socially, it really hurt, but I try, I really do), I force myself to look into people’s eyes when all I want to do is look somewherelse because I don’t think I need to look at you to understand what you are saying. I don’t know how to keep a conversation going, I don’t understand senseness and witty conversations, I just want to say what needs to be said, its such a struggle. I suspected I have autisim , but the symptoms I read about were too aggressive for me. Though as a child I was pretty aggressive when I didn’t want something. I was slow to speak, didn’t speak till I was three. It feels good to know why now. At least I can read more about managing me. Its been a struggle, I want to have people around me and in my life but don’t know how to keep them. They all just go and I am always worried I don’t really understand the true meanings of their words and actions. I hope we can work on studying and diagnosing more girls then we can save them from the struggles others have been through.
