Hi Sadie,

So sorry to hear you had such a distressing reaction! To be honest with you I’m not sure if there are specific points where a reaction is or isn’t described as anaphylaxis – the definition is simply that it is a serious reaction that has the potential to be life threatening. If the symptoms weren’t brought down by the treatment paramedics gave you, which were possibly designed to treat anaphylaxis, it could be that your reaction was something else. However, I cannot give you medical advice – it’d be best to go speak to your GP and describe to them what happened to you.

Whatever the case it’s good to hear you’re alright, and hopefully you can get some clarification if you do visit your GP. 🙂 I hope you feel better soon.

All the best!
Liz

I guess the steam allowed it to get into my lungs after horse sweat being on my skin. Immediate asthma attack, hives all over the body. The ambulance gave me a piriton shot and then a hydrocortisone shot, neither worked for the hives. I went pale, heart rate 130 and wanted to pass out, also blood pressure way too high. 2 nebulisers later and I could breath. They said the adrenaline was on standby but then I started to come out of it. I still feel awful 2 days later, but my question is, at what point is it called anaphylaxis? My throat and tongue didn’t swell but I can safely say it was severe. Paramedics said it wasn’t the treatments they gave me that brought the symptoms to a halt because the hives didn’t respond.

Thanks liz. I was in the hospital when I had the adrenaline. Think I was just really wiped out.

Hi Nicki,

I imagine it depends on the severity of your reaction and how your body recovers from the shock. I’d recommend visiting your local GP to get advice if you still feel unwell or if this happens again in future to you. They will be able to advise you appropriately.

I hope that helps, and that you feel better.
Liz

I feel awful today. Extremely dizzy, fatigued and headachey. How long will I feel like this? Why do I feel like this?
